La Ronda was designed by architects Arthur and Nina Zwebell in 1928 for actor Richard Dix. The building is also known as Chateau des Fleurs. The three-story Spanish Colonial Revival apartment complex occupies a long, narrow lot with a distinctive configuration: a narrow block paralleling Havenhurst Drive contains two multi-floor apartments and an underground parking garage entrance, while two longer rectangular blocks extend east toward North Crescent Heights Boulevard. The two east-west blocks are separated by alley-like corridors, with the northern corridor containing a Spanish Colonial garden that creates a private outdoor retreat.
The building features Spanish Colonial Revival architectural elements including deeply recessed arched entries, decorative tilework, wrought iron balconies, and traditional terra cotta roof tiles. Multiple courtyard spaces incorporate benches, water elements, and landscaping that create shared outdoor living areas for residents. The incorporation of an underground parking garage reflects the increasing influence of automobile requirements on urban apartment design in the late 1920s.
