Leland Arthur Bryant was an American architect who primarily worked in the Los Angeles area during the 1920s and early 1930s. Born in Santa Cruz, California, Bryant moved to San Francisco with his family in 1904, where he likely attended UC Berkeley. Between 1907 and 1918, he worked as a draughtsman at several prestigious San Francisco architecture firms, including those of D.H. Burnham and Bakewell and Brown, as well as G. Albert Lansburgh in Los Angeles. He established his own practice in San Francisco in 1918, moved to Los Angeles in 1924, and partnered with Kenneth MacDonald in 1929.
His architectural career was cut short by the Great Depression, after which he worked as a building inspector, aircraft designer, and inventor, founding the Geometric Mastering Corp. He was married to Virginia Scheere and had two daughters. Bryant specialized in creating luxurious period revival apartment buildings that epitomized Hollywood glamour, focusing primarily on Châteauesque architecture while working competently in all historical styles.
